A poem inspired by the love and kindness that we have received in abundance since my wife Jo was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2017.
A hundred sunflowers
Burned their way
Through a thousand darkening moments
Fields of light waved golden heads
At clouds whose muscled mass
Would snuff their life
But Life would not be snuffed
A hundred sunflowers
Nodded their assent
To the everlasting sun
From whose ascent
The darkness has to run
And every head a kindness
And every head a gift
And every head a loving word
That heavy heads would lift
A hundred sunflowers
Blazed a million rays.
And rising son blazed life and light
And love for endless day
